What Will Happen At My First Lesson
The first week of your course will include Study Skills. Good Study Skills are vital to ensure you gain the best from your course. The Study Skills session will give you the opportunity to discover the best way that you can learn and fully understand the requirements of the course.

Entry Level/Level 1

Who is this course for?
This course is for adults with learning disabilities who wish to move into volunteering and employment.

What can I expect to Learn?
You will cover units on customer service, volunteering, working with others and personal planning. As part of the course, you will identify your own personal skills and attributes and set yourself an action plan to support personal progression. ACL are working with Little Haven's hospice volunteering team to support learners to apply for a number of different roles within their charity shops. These positions work alongside the volunteering courses within our centres.

How will I learn?
Your tutor will use a number of different teaching methods to develop your skills. These will include a wide range of authentic materials, individual study, working in pairs/group activities and will include the use of video/audio. You will also have the opportunity to use online learning technologies to develop your skills. In conjunction with attending the course you will be interviewed by Havens Hospice volunteers service to apply for a post in their local charity shop.

How will I know how well I am doing?
You will follow an individual learning plan which will track your achievements. You will also work towards a qualification.

Will I need to do extra work at home?
You are expected to make use of the skills learnt in college at home and in the work place at Havens Hospice Charity shops.

What will I need to provide?
You should bring a folder, pen, money for lunch or a drink and wear appropriate clothing.

Are there any other costs?
Occasional funds will be needed for outings or events. Bring money to buy a drink or snack.

What can I do next?
You can progress on to other courses. Your tutor will advise as to which is the most suitable.
