During this pre-qualification cookery course, you will develop skills that support your next steps into further learning, training, or employment. You will build important independent living skills, while improving your communication, self?confidence, and ability to work as part of a team. Through preparing healthy meals and snacks, you will learn practical cookery skills alongside essential kitchen health and safety knowledge. This course is designed to be practical, supportive, and confidence building, helping you develop skills you can use both in everyday life and future progression.

Who is this course for?
Young people and adults aged 19+ with learning disabilities and/or Autism who need to improve their confidence in the kitchen.
What can I expect to Learn?
You will learn important independent living skills, while improving your understanding of a healthy and balanced diet. Through preparing healthy meals and snacks, you will learn practical cookery skills alongside essential kitchen health and safety knowledge.
How will I learn?
Your tutor will use a number of different teaching methods to develop your skills. These will include a wide range of authentic materials, individual study, working in pairs/group activities and will include the use of video/audio. You will also have the opportunity to use online learning technologies to develop your skills.
How will I know how well I am doing?
You will follow an individual learning plan which will track your achievements.
Will I need to do extra work at home?
You are expected to make use of the skills learnt in college at home and out in the community.
What will I need to provide?
You should bring an apron and a container to take home your cooking.
Are there any other costs?
You will need to bring an additional £2.50 each week to cover the cost of the ingredients which will be purchased for each learner on a weekly basis.
It is more cost-effective to purchase ingredients in bulk rather than learners purchasing individually.
